Sew Fun! Stitching on Paper

Hey all! Over on the SVG Cuts Facebook Wall a discussion was started by Deb of Deb’s Crafty Side. She and others were asking about stitching with a sewing machine on paper. This is a really fun technique and adds a perfect touch to projects.

Here are a few tips:

  • Do not stitch thru adhesive - either add adhesive to the sections you do not plan to stitch or stitch and then adhere the stitched piece to your project.
  • Deb asked if you can stitch two pieces of cardstock together - sure! I have not done more than two layers though.
  • Try some different stitches. I inherited by machine and it only does a straight stitch - I plan to get a new one so I can do zig zag and other stitches.
  • One great thing about stitching on paper is you don't have to be exact. If I was sewing a dress I'd be nervous my true sewing skills would be evident and it would fall apart while I was wearing it. You are just sewing paper so you can be adventurous.

Here are a few projects I have stitched on:

Stitching on scrapbook layouts is a nice touch.

Need some additional sewing inspiration? Check out Thienly’s latest DT Project for SVG Cuts that feature stitching. Need an example of a card with stitching - Check out Thienly’s Card here. Check out Tamara’s gorgeous project for some stitching. Here is a card from Tamara with some great close ups of her awesome stitching.

If you have some stitching tips please share under the comments section! happy stitching!

New Home Collage

My son’s 1st grade teacher just closed on a new home the last week of school. I made this collage for her from the entire class. We also gave her a bunch of gift cards for home improvement and furnishing stores.

I used a 12x12 Shadowbox from Joanns. The little house is from SVG Cuts:

Strawberry Lane SVG Collection

I cut the little EST. 2012 so tiny on my amazing Sizzix eclips.

The SVG Cuts Design Team recently coordinated getting cards for Mary & Leo of SVG Cuts.
I love how Thienly added a little key on her card and liked the little house she used so I scraplifted them for my collage.

I tried something new on this collage with the family name.
The first example has the regular font and the second and third have effects added to the font.
On my collage I used the effect called rise. I also made the first initial larger.

If you have Adobe Illustrator give these a try:

Here is a close up of the family name.

I just realized I never shared my card I made for Mary & Leo so here it is:

I used the lyrics from Crosby Stills & Nash for this one. I was going to make a kitty to match their kitty named Gucci and wouldn't you know - there was a SVG called Gucci already!

Hope you had a great Memorial Day Weekend! I sure did and had today off too. My husband and I are thinking about putting our home on the market so we had a busy weekend cleaning & finding a place for all our “stuff”. You should see my craft room - super organized and clean!

Have a great week & don’t forget to stop by SVG Cuts for their Memorial Weekend Sale!

A little gift

Wow! It sure has been a long time since I've blogged. This time of the year is always busy being the end of the school year, field trips, scouts graduation, etc, etc. I haven't stopped crafting - just haven't had time to do blog postings.

Plus....I just can't seem to get the hang of this new Blogger Upgrade. Doesn't seem too different and I love the fact you can resize the photos after they are placed - I am just struggling a bit with how it all works.

Here is a little something I made for an end of the school year gift - handed this one off to the bus driver the other day and it brought a big smile to her face!

The water can is from SVG Cut's

I used a solid kraft style paper for the sides and back and patterned paper is from Basic Grey - Kissing Booth.
Sold pink accents are AC Cardstock. All cut on my Sizzix eclips!

Today is the last day to get this wonderful collection:
I plan to make something from this collection real soon!
A Memorial Day Sale over at SVG Cuts is coming this weekend.

Stop back soon - I have another end of the school year gift I plan to share. Hope you have a great long Memorial Weekend!

Happy 30th!

Have you seen the latest Kit from SVG Cuts?
I have been waiting for the 3D numbers for quite some time and have a bunch of projects planned for these.

I was invited to a surprise 30th Birthday Party yesterday and made this for the guest of honor.

I started with the base box. It is from the:
I filled the box with her favorite candy and a gift card.

I then cut the 30 using the latest kit from SVG Cuts.
Get it free with purchase. Click here:
I cut the 30 in chipboard too and added a foam tape under to pop it off.
I hot glued the numbers to the box.
I just love how the Sizzix eclips cuts all types of paper & chipboard.

I then cut the add ons to the top and bottom.
The "HAPPY" is from:
I used wire to attach to the top of the numbers.
The "birthday" is from:

Here is a closeup ~ I used Best Creation Papers - Loops and Scoops.
For the solids I used AC Cardstock. I pulled colors from the patterned paper for the solids.
I added some buttons, flowers, ribbon and twine to accent.

Hope you like my project and have a great week!
