Tip of the Week - Make your own embossing folder

Well - I have been wanted to do this for quite some time and finally did it! I must admit it took me a few times to get it right. I used the Cricut Embossing Folder Kit.

Step 1 - I set up the SVGs I wanted to use as my emboss. I used all “thank you” files from SVG Cuts. The embossing folder is 5.75 wide x 4.25 high and I came in about a 1/2 inch in from the edge.

Step 2 - Place the Cricut Embossing Sheet on the Cricut Mat and cut 2 times.

Step 3 - Peel off the entire sheet as one piece - a little tricky but it worked out for me.

Step 4 - Now here is the part I struggled with - I was peeling off the entire one side but you only peel off the negative area so that side is sticky and place the entire sheet on the left side of the blank embossing folder. Press this down firmly - they even recommend you run it thru the Cuttlebug to make sure it is sticking.

Step 5 - Take the backing off the positive side. When all done fold the folder up so those pieces adhere to the right side of the embossing folder.

Step 6 - Emboss away!

Here is a card I made with the “thank you” embossing folder. I've embossed using this about 20 times and it is still staying intact.

I used DCWV & AC Cardstock and Creative Charms Gradient Pearls along with a ribbon to accent.

If you decide to make your own embossing folder or if you have already done so please email me a photo - would love to share!

Hope you are enjoying your Memorial Day Weekend!

Back To School Layout

I created this 2 page layout to remember a very important day. It was back to school time. William was attending first grade and Timmy was starting Kindergarten.

This title was a freebie from SVG Cuts (8/10/10). I added some inking, ribbons and cuttlebugged the tag.
These cute little back packs are from the Back To School Collection from SVG Cuts. I also ran these through the Cuttlebug.

This school along with the apple and worm are from the SVG Cuts Miss Karen’s Back to School Bags Collection. Added some Creative Charms embellishments on the door and bell.

I made a little pocket to hold my son’s pencil nametag. Papers are from BoBunny - one of my favorites!

Abigail Collage

Well this is my third Jungle Theme in a row - a very popular baby’s room theme. This time I used the Cuddly Animals from SVG Cuts. I took out the eyes on the SVGs and replaced them with Black Gradient Gems from Creative Charms. Gave it a different, more whimsical look.

The frog is a freebie from SVG Cuts - 1/16/10.

The font is Tekton Pro which is fun and great for welding. The collage also feature ribbon and other embellishments from Creative Charms. Buttons are from my stash. If you are new to my collages I use shadowbox frames from Joanns - they are approx 20" wide x 9" high. I use Sure Cuts Alot (SCAL) and my Cricut.

It's a Jungle Charlotte Collage

Here is a baby name collage I created for my coworker. Her first grand daughter made her debut in September. I knew the room had a jungle theme but did not know the name or if I should work in blue or pink. Here is where I start -by getting a photo of the bedding.

I do a rough layout in Adobe Illustrator. I like being able to move things around on the computer. Plus I can see how big to make my elements & type. I then save out the elements as SVGs and import into Sure Cuts Alot (SCAL) & cut on my Cricut.

From there I build the collage. Here are few closeups of the SVG Cuts elements - these are from the Cuddly Animals Collections - absolutely perfect for this jungle theme.

I then add in the Creative Charms. I used the new Vintage Jewels. The tear drop shapes were perfect for the elephant and the flowers are a nice to touch to make the collage more appropriate for a girl.

Here is the final collage...

Wedding Invite Collage

I had a wedding shower over the weekend. The bride designed her own invites so I knew she would appreciate one of my wedding invite collages. Her color is Tiffany Blue and she will be wearing her Mom’s headpiece that has daisies on it.

I cut the flowers on the Cricut using SVG Cuts 3D Mums and Fall Flowers Digi Cart. I am loving my Cuttlebug embossing machine. I embossed the centers of the daisies. The light blue is a piece of vellum I put through the Cuttlebug and it all sits on an embossed white paper. Swirls are from the Swirlies Digi Cart.

When the bride-to-be opened the collage she exclaimed “Oh My God” so I am happy that she was happy!
