Valentine Gift Box

Why re-invent the wheel, right? I created a Gingerbread House for Christmas and loved making and putting it together. (See the side panel of my blog for a photo).

I decided to create a Valentine Gift Box using the same structure. I turned the icicles into scallops and added lots of hearts. There are only 3 SVGs for this file. Each is on a separate layer in SCAL 2 (Sure Cuts Alot).

The Structure:

The Background:

The Elements:

Here are step by step instructions:

STEP 1: Cut the Structure SVG 2 times using white card stock. Please note - there are score lines on this and it does take awhile.

STEP 2: Cut the Background SVG 2 times using whatever background color you want. I used a red stock. I would recommend a paper that isn't too thick. Mount the background paper to the white cardstock. I use spray mount and I roll over it to make sure all is secure.

STEP 3: Cut the Elements SVG 2 times. I used various colors and stocks for this. You can layout it out on the mat and cut all at once. (see photo below) If you want to mix up the color scheme - go for it!

STEP 4: Adhere the cut elements to the house and embellish. I used Creative Charms embellishments. (I added more embellishments to the door panel after I took this photo).

STEP 5: Attach two pieces together and add some adhesive to the tab to secure.

STEP 6: Fold on all the score lines and fold up 2 bottom flaps and fold in the 2 bottom flaps that have the notches. Fold in the top/side flaps and fold in one of the top flaps and then the other. Add in some yummy heart cutout cookies or a Valentine gift.

I'm including the SVG and the SCUT file in the ZIP file. If you'd like to alter or if you are using SCAL 1 and need to reimport the SVGs here are the measurements:

Elements SVG: w 9.33 h 10.08
Background: w 10.2 h 8.73
Structure: w 10.9 h 11.38

If you decide to make one please send me an image via email - would love to see it!

I plan to make a mini version of this for anyone that has the Cricut Create. It will be about 3" tall. It will not have all the detail but it will be cute! Stop by again!

  14. This is great. I like the idea of changing houses for the holidays. Next I'll need to look at Halloween houses to see what I can alter. Thanks!
